A NEW START

I love a reason to start a new project : )  April is my month to get blocks from the ladies in the Spellingbee group and I'm excited for this quilt !

I've asked them for words related to knitting and the quilt will hang in my yarn shop when it's finished. I'm thinking it will be a cute addition to the wall behind the desk and inspiration for knitters who also quilt.

I made a block for myself to get things started.  Low volume backgrounds with modern prints for the letters.

Psso--pass slipped stitch over.  It will be fun when the blocks start arriving in the mail. I'll post pictures too

Is it an age thing to start liking purple???  This year has me all over the colour plum.  Just look at that gorgeous yarn.

I've been remiss in mentioning these magazines as I get them.  Simply Moderne is put out by Quiltmania and is sort of hard to find. Our local Chapters gets them in sometimes.  They have great patterns in them and the photography is beautiful.  I'm sure one of my kids would love that deer quilt

and I love this one too.  If anyone knows where I can get a few more hours in my day, please let me know !

Enjoy your week

INTRODUCING...........KNIT2 YARNS !

After months of planning, painting, and purchasing, I am ready to open Monday morning.  To say I won't sleep tonight may be an understatement.  I'm excited for tomorrow : )

This post could have been named 'Ode to Mrs. McArthur'.  When I was in grade three, my teacher Mrs. McArthur said, that when we were done our work for the day, we could come sit by her desk and she would teach us how to knit. Well I didn't need to be asked twice!  Myself and a handful of others took her up on her offer.  Little did she know the gift she was giving me.  I wonder if she ever thought of the children and grand children that I would be knitting for some 45 years later.  I get all weepy thinking of her. I wonder how many more children she shared this gift with after I moved on to the next grades. How many before me had she taught?   I knit all through elementary school until I hit my teen years and decided it wasn't cool anymore.  Not until the doctor looked at me and said 'your pregnant' did I pick up the needles again.  I had such fun knitting for all my babies and now my grand babes.  So my dear Mrs. McArthur, thank you.  Thank you for the gift of knitting, for endless hours of relaxation, and for the gift of this little shop I get to spend my future years at.  You will never know how much I appreciate you taking the time to share with me your talent.  You were my favourite teacher : )

and now a few photos of inside

I've got a table for you to sit at and knit : )

lots of different sock yarns

and a look in

First off, thank you God who was always one step ahead of me preparing the way.  Thank you also to my wonderful hubby, who without him, this couldn't happen.  My family who came without being asked, to paint and organize and price yarn by the box load!  I love you.

Enjoy your week.  I think it's going to be a busy one!!

MARCHING ALONG

My blocks are done for the two groups early this month. Yay!  For the Spelling bee group Mary asked for words relating to stitching so ...........

She wanted black and white backgrounds and I had a big piece of this print which I love.

For the Mid Century Modern group, Linda asked for little churn dash blocks with lots of red.

She also challenged us to use black to make it appear there is a hole in the block without compromising the integrity of the churndash.  These little jiggers are 4 1/2". Cute!

Well I am off and running.  The next post will hopefully be pictures of a fully stocked and ready for action knitting shop. Can hardly wait!

Enjoy your week,
Carla

A SHOP UPDATE

In less than two weeks, I'll be opening the doors to Knit2 Yarns.  Can't believe it's really going to happen.

Yesterday we were working on the barn doors.  Hubby was building and I was painting

Now it all needs to come down so I can paint the header and finish the back. I love the white against the dark grey wall.

I couldn't resist finding out how the bright yarns would look against the grey too, so I took a few skeins to hang up and see

I may or may not have bought a vintage pink scooter for a window display ...........

Hexie shelves?  Yes please.  This little corner and all it's potential

......and needles.  From tiny sock needles to giant ones, we will have them : )  For those of you who don't know, my hubby's name is Bliss. When he made the first set of these needles for me, I knew I wanted a name for them and 'Bliss' needles just had a ring to it.  I knew that somewhere in my sewing room I had a stamp from way back in the day so I hunted it down  : )

We are having so much fun with this shop!

Enjoy your day,
Carla

METRO AREA MONTH 7

So, how is your quilt coming?  This month involves three colour ways and lots of sharp angles : )

I love this block, except I did it wrong. I had the bottom 'roast' section cut out wrong and pieced together before I realized if I flipped it, that would make it upside down. I left it alone........

the points on this one.  Just sew carefully

Done for another month.  I've been cutting the blocks for the next few months and oooh the fabrics are all so fun.

Happy Sewing!
